The Famous Five

The Famous Five is a complex of five lakes that has had a good reputation among carp and catfish anglers for many years. The different lakes all have their own unique character and properties. What they all have in common is their own accommodation near the lake. The complex’s new owners have worked tirelessly over the past two years to upgrade the accommodations, fish stocks and lakes. Orchard

 

 

 

Mixed carp and catfish lake with carp to over 40lb and catfish to 30kg (maybe higher). The average weight of the carp is estimated at around 25 pounds with a good mix of scales and mirrors. The current lake record is 80 fish caught in a week, all from the home swim.

Eagle

 

 

 

Mixed carp and catfish lake with minimum 6 carp of 40lb and known cats up to 130lb. The current records on this lake (as of the 2023 season) are 46lb8oz Mirror, ‘RibEye Pete’ (last caught on September 23, 2023) and a monster 130lb Welsh Catfish. At least two other 100-pound catfish are known, plus quite a few ferocious cats from 20 to 90 pounds. The current record for total weight in a week is 2,630 pounds, set in 2023.

The lake is currently combined with Eagles Lake and provides a good contrast to the often high intensity experience of Eagles Lake. This is mainly a carp lake and has been set up to provide a growing environment for them to grow in before spreading to the other lakes on the complex. The average weight of the carp is likely to be around 18 pounds and as they approach their mid-twenties they will be moved further. In addition, there are pike (about 50 cm), a small number of catfish, grass species, bream (in small numbers), a sturgeon (‘Nicola’) and koi (the largest is ‘Fanta’). This lake not only offers a great environment to escape to Eagles Lake, but also a safe environment for less experienced and younger anglers, as well as float and lure fishing. Is the first lake you encounter as you enter the Famous Five Lake complex. The shoreline around the lake has now been completely upgraded, no more trees in the lake and the water quality is back where it should be. This lake will surely soon be the parade lake for The Famous Five. As with the other lakes, the balance within the lake has changed radically with as many catfish under 20kg removed as possible (about 40 so far). During the November 2023 stocking, 16 new carp and 2 grass carp were introduced to the lake, as well as 4 carp relocated from neighboring Birch Lake.

This lake is great for catfish anglers. The weights of the catfish swimming around have not yet been fully mapped out, but according to rumors there are catfish of over 60kg swimming around. But among these catfish are also some beautiful carp up to 35 pounds, a few grass carp and pike that will give any angler an increased heart rate.
